I built my own system mostly for imaging & gaming, I installed ultimate x64 with 4GB of RAM all working fine and very happy with Vista. Due to the vast amount of files I have acquired over the years I decided to invest in a proper backup solution and decided to wait for the HP MediaSmart server to arrive running MS home server. It turns out that this is not compatible with x64! Nowhere on the site does it say its not compatible or even on the system requirements on the box so now my only option to keep this server was to purchase ultimate x86. I find it hard to believe that MS do not support their own x64 operating system. Now my only problem is that I cannot get 4GB of RAM working on my x86 OS. PS. MS One care will not work with home server! go figure

Had the same problem about a year ago in windows XP though. Cant rememebr exactly how i did it, but after i got VMtools installed and working everything seemed to work fine. Now creating XP machines with no problems . Admittedly these are 32 bit machines but i am running on windows 7 64 bit.
I will add X99 after I see someone testing it with Vista with no problems. The issue is also existent with Z97, not just H97: -discussion/304098-logon-process-initialization-failure-vista-ultimate-x64.html

Thanks, solution 2 worked for me. My problem started when windows file explorer would shut down when I clicked on "recent places", and one of the solutions was to make sure my windows was updated, and I discovered my updates was not working. Unfortunately, clicking on "recent places" is still causing windows explorer to quit.
I have used all the above steps, did not work and still giving me the same answer of:"windows update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. you may need to restart your computer."I have updated my HD to double the storage and higher speed for windows 7 (64 bit) and performed a windows 7 installation from my back up DVDs. the computer is working just fine and the system of my notebook wont install or download any update so far.Thanks in advance.
